This post was originally written when I was looking for alcoholic cold weather beverages that would be perfect for a cold Nairobi night. Since many of you come to this post, looking for what drink for cold weather, though, I will begin this post with that.

What Drink for Cold Weather #1: Boston Tea Punch Recipe (Serves 12)
Ingredients
1 750 ml bottle dark rum
4 cups black tea
4½ oz triple sec
12 lemon slices
Sugar to taste
Directions
1. Heat rum, tea and triple sec in a saucepan.
2. Add sugar and stir until dissolved but don’t let it boil.
3.Serve in warmed punch cups or mugs.

What Drink for Cold Weather #2: Calypso Coffee Recipe
Ingredients
1½ oz Tia Maria coffee liqueur
Hot coffee
Whipped cream
Directions
1. Pour the coffee into a coffee mug or Irish coffee mug.
2. Add the Tia Maria.
3. Top with whipped cream.

Cold Weather Drinks #3: Chocolate Mint
Ingredients
1 oz peppermint schnapps or crème de menthe
Hot chocolate
Directions
Combine the hot chocolate and your chosen liqueur in a footed mug.

Cold Weather Beverages #4: Egg Nog
Ingredients
3 cups gold rum
1 cup dark rum
2 quarts half & half
1 cup sugar
12 eggs
4 tsp vanilla extract
Nutmeg
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until light.
2. Add the sugar, then the half & half, rums, and vanilla.
3. Cover and chill over night.
4. Take out of fridge about ½ hour before serving.
Serves 20
A few evenings ago, while getting some work done, I suddenly had a craving for a stiff drink.
Strangely enough, I was in the mood for a drink that I rarely drink: brandy.
Going with the flow and obeying my craving, I walked to the nearest alcohol vendor and purchased some.
My plan was to drink the brandy mixed with juice, but as I started to pour my drink, I felt like having something more suitable for the cold weather outside.
Creating a Cocktail for Cold Weather off the Top of My Head
Off the top of my head, I couldn’t think of a warm cocktail whose ingredients I had in stock, so I ended up concocting a drink with brandy, warm milk, sugar, and cocoa powder—I guess one could call it a hot chocolate laced with brandy.
It was good, but still, I wondered what other warm cocktails I could have made.
I decided to do some research.
