If you are dining in Dar es Salaam and are wondering about where to have a good meal, here are 14 restaurants that I wholeheartedly recommend:

  1. Karambezi Café
  2. Rohobot Ethiopian Restaurant – for authentic, well-priced Ethiopian food. The food will make up for the location despite it not having the same upscale ambiance as Addis in Dar.
  3. Épi d’Or – especially during the day
  4. Zûane – for outstanding Italian food & pizzas
  5. Osaka – for great Japanese food served in a most entertaining way
  6. Veranda Tapas Bar
  7. Salt – for tasty hearty food (and great steak!)
  8. Rudy’s Farm – for amazing BBQ/grilled fare
  9. Samaki-Samaki – for dependable casual dining (and great entertainment during the evenings)
  10. Kingston 8 – for Jamaican food
  11. George & Dragon – for delicious pub food and a lively environment
  12. Thai Kani – for delicious East Asian cusine although not the most authentic
  13. Oriental – for high end East Asian dining
  14. Levant – for Levantine (Middle Eastern) cuisine in an upscale atmosphere

Sweets Foods Near Me – Dar es Salaam

If you are in Dar es Salaam and are looking for somewhere to indulge your sweet tooth, then I wholeheartedly recommend Soul Treats on Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road in an area called Mbuyuni.

They arguably have the best cupcakes in town!

If you are in Kampala and looking for somewhere to indulge your sweet tooth, any of the Cafe Javas (now CJ’s) branches will have something to satisfy. Their Fudge Obsession, for one, is to die for!

Another place I can wholeheartedly recommend in Kampala if you just Googled ‘sweet restaurant near me’ is Karveli on Lumumba Street in Nakasero (though I hear they now also have a branch in Bukoto). The ice cream offerings at Karveli bring me right back to the pleasure of eating ice cream as a child. They are that good!

Tanzanian restaurant near me: Sweet Eazy

I was born in the oceanside city of Dar-es-Salaam and lived there until I was two.

Until my parents moved back to Dar-es-Salaam, early last year, my knowledge and experience of Dar-es-Salaam was very limited. I had been back a couple of times over the years, but most of my visits to Dar-es-Salaam were spent doing the relatives’ tour (I am sure some of you know what I mean by that).

Still, in the past one and some years of visiting Dar-es-Salaam regularly, I have been making up for lost time.

  1. I never thought of this place as an eatery… But I heard the food at the Zanzibar branch was delicious! Last time I lived in dar, sweet easy was THE place to be on Thursdays… After nyama choma at jackies, of course. 😉

  2. Last time I lived in Dar this was THE place to be on Thursday nights…for the live band/dance and/or Spoilt4Choices DJ nights. I never actually ate there, but I always heard the Zanzibar branch was good. Next time I’m in town I’ll check it out!

  3. Hi Nairobi Notes/Fake Expatriate,

Yeah, I hear Sweet Eazy rocks as a hang spot. I’ve never been on a hang night but can’t wait to try it out. Every time I have been, it’s been a full-fledged sit down restaurant with no hint of a party going on.

I didn’t know there was a Zanzibar branch until I started to put up this post. I am keen to check it out the next time I am in Zanzibar. (Isn’t Zanzibar just fab?!)

Nyama choma at Jackie’s?! I’ve always passed in front of Jackie’s and seen the parking lot full but I’ve never been. How’s the choma? How do you find Tanzanian choma vis-à-vis Kenyan choma?

How long did you live in Dar by the way?

  4. Hi, Good evening.

I came accross your blog while looking for bloggers from Tanzania. I must say I was really impressed by your writing and by the fact that Blogging is now really taking off in Tanzania. It is a very nice contribution you bloggers are making because it helps Tanzanians like me who live abroad to connect with home.

My friends and I have just launched a Tanzanian forum called TanzaniaMeet.com (TMeet) where we have created a Tanzanian bloggers community and we are currently compiling a list of all Tanzanian blogs and we are inviting you to add your blog to the list and join the first ever Tanzanian bloggers community. Please help us spread the word about TMeet to your readers and all bloggers and blog about us. Thanks a lot! We’ll be expecting for you.

  5. Hi TMeet,

Welcome to ChickAboutTown! I am glad that you enjoy my writing.

Thanks so much for telling me about TanzaniaMeet.com. I’ve all ready signed up and am reading the message boards on other tabs in my browser as I write this.

I’ll definitely spread the word, especially as I become more familiar with TMeet. I am looking forward to reading other Tanzanian blogs and conversing with other Tanzanian bloggers because to date, I don’t know any.

I hope to see more of you here on ChickAboutTown as well as on TanzaniaMeet.com.

    Cheers,
    Biche
